Teeth Whitening

When considering cosmetic dentistry to improve the appearance of your smile, you should know that teeth whitening is a quick and affordable way to spruce up your smile. A white smile looks healthier and younger – something many people appreciate.

Why Teeth Stain

You might have noticed that your teeth are not quite as brilliant as they used to be. Stained teeth are a natural part of ageing, and if you use tobacco or drink coffee, your teeth tend to darken much faster.

Fortunately, teeth whitening is safe for most patients and typically solves the problem of stained teeth.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening boasts a number of benefits compared to commercially available products.

We design customised whitening trays that hold the whitening agent in place. Many commercial products use generic trays or strips that allow gel to come into contact with gum tissue and cause irritation.

Teeth whitening under the supervision of an experienced dentist often means better results and fewer side effects, such as sensitivity.

It is always best to begin whitening teeth after a professional cleaning because this removes tartar from the teeth, which can impede results.

Our at-home customised system is easy to use:

  • We start by taking impressions of teeth.
  • We design whitening trays specifically for you.
  • You will receive an ample supply of whitening gel.
  • We measure results with a before-and-after shade.
  • You can wear your trays for an hour or two each day.
  • Reserve your custom trays for future touch-ups.
  • Maximum results are visible after 2 to 3 weeks.

If you have sensitive teeth, we offer solutions such as fluoride application or desensitizing gel. This makes the process more comfortable for patients who have gum recession or are particularly sensitive to peroxide.

Dr Justin Ward will help you find a solution that gives you white teeth without the uncomfortable zing of sensitivity. Sometimes taking a day or two off between treatments solves the problem.

How to Keep Teeth Looking Bright

Teeth have microscopic pores that absorb colours from food, drinks, smoking and even certain mouth rinses. Ideally, avoiding these staining substances would be best, but giving up red wine or coffee is a tall request.

Instead, consider rinsing your mouth or even brushing afterward. A dental polish will also remove surface stains and brighten teeth.

Your custom whitening trays will last many years with the proper care, and we offer refills to maintain a white smile for a lifetime.

Are You Short on Time?

We also provide in-house teeth whitening with the Zoom! Whitening system for patients who have an upcoming special event or busy schedule.

After placing a protective barrier on your gums, we will apply professional strength whitening gel to the teeth and activate it using a light. We will repeat the process up to three times during your appointment to achieve the desired shade.

Most patients use the in-house whitening option in partnership with the home system for brilliant results.
